PRINCIPLES OF BUSINESS

Over the past 200 years, business has transformed the way we live and had a major impact on the current state of our planet. Clearly, business plays a fundamental role in society, yet its role and functions are not always well understood.

This course examines the functions and role of business and how business’ role and views toward business have evolved and continue to evolve at the local, national and global levels. Through a combination of case studies, textbook, video and other resources, students will explore business and its historic, current, and potential future contributions to society and to the state of the planet. Students will explore the core functions of business that are developed further in more advanced Business courses. Particular emphasis will be placed on business ethics and the growing interest in stakeholder/socially responsible business practices.

Within the frames of this course students will study

  1. Modern concepts of business activity, origin of business ideas and interests, modern role of business in economy-social life of humanity
  2. Corporative level of business – types of companies and forms of entrepreneurship organization in the modern world and in Thailand
  3. Principles of corporative management (process of opening, strategic and tactic planning and management in the company, processes of corporative reorganization and bankruptcy in international and Thai national practices)
  4. Types of modern unions and alliances (domestic and international) in business, resources of their economical efficiency and reason for forming
  5.  Competition as a condition of business development, types of competition and competitors, methods and rules for competition wars
  6. Contract base for national and international business deals
  7. Rules of functioning and impact of main parts of business infrastructure such a labor market, finance market, commodity market, banks, investment funds and so on.
